Abstract: With the progress of second language acquisition research and cognitive psychology, more and
more language researchers and pedagogues recognize that foreign language learning motivation
plays a crucial role in the factors that influence language learners’ language ability. Only through
understanding students’ motivation can foreign language teachers adopt appropriate teaching
strategies on time to stimulate and develop foreign language learners’ motivation and thus improve
the effectiveness of foreign language teaching. At present, experts and scholars at home and abroad
have conducted a lot of research on foreign language learning motivation. However, the research
subjects mainly cover groups such as college students and primary and secondary school students,
and there are relatively few studies on Medical and Nursing students. Therefore, in this paper, the
research subjects are one hundred and seventy students in the Medical and Nursing senior class at
Panzhihua University. The current situation of college students English learning motivation is
investigated and studied using questionnaires and interviews, and the reasons leading to their
insufficient motivation are analyzed. The results show that the English learning motivation of
students in the Medical and Nursing senior class of Panzhihua University is not strong, and their
learning motivation is mainly “certificate type” and “tool type”. |
